What We Believe

The United Methodist Church is a 12.8 million member global church that is opening hearts, minds and doors through active engagement with our world. John Wesley and the early Methodists placed primary emphasis on Christian living – putting faith and love into action. This emphasis on what Wesley referred to as “practical divinity” continues to be a hallmark of United Methodism today.

The mission of the United Methodist Church is “to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”  At Peoples United Methodist Church we believe that we accomplish this through the ministries of witness, nurture, and outreach. We strive to be invitational, hospitable, accepting, and inclusive. We seek to care for and nurture all people, enabling them to grow in their experience and understanding of God and of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. We endeavor to be active in mission – concerned about and responsive to needs beyond the doors of the church, locally and around the world.

Our Vision Statement We accept God's love for us as demonstrated by Jesus Christ. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we will create and nurture an environment in which a diversity of people can develop and deepen a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Our actions as individuals and as a congregation in the local community and the world are a result of our commitment to the Lord.

Our Mission Statement As Peoples United Methodist Church, we take our mission as Jesus' words "to go and make disciples" and John Wesley's exhortation to "spread scriptural holiness" within and beyond our local community.

We take seriously “our theological task” – the ongoing effort of reflecting on our faith through the lenses of scripture, tradition, experience and reason. Such reflection assists us in interpreting the Bible for our contemporary context and provides guidance for moral questions and dilemmas faced in daily living.
